Resumo(s)

Adverse childhood experiences can be divided into household dysfunction, which affects the child indirectly (mental illness or suicide and substance abuse of any household member, domestic violence, parental separation and incarceration of a household member), and direct maltreatment (physical and emotional abuse and neglect and sexual abuse). Household dysfunction and child maltreatment often occur together, are interrelated, and have cumulative negative effects. In this way, a clearer picture emerged of the interaction between dimensions of adverse childhood experiences, more specifically child sexual abuse and household dysfunction, different psychopathy traits, and aggressiveness. The sample consists of 1007 individuals of Portuguese nationality aged 18 or over. The following instruments were used to assess the different variables: the Childhood Adversity History Questionnaire, the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure, the Life History of Aggression, and the Impulsive and Premeditated Aggression Scale using online data collection. It was possible to confirm that that child sexual abuse has some associations, but is not a central node in the network, and the Household Dysfunction variables are strongly connected to each other, Substance Abuse in Household, Mental Illness of a Household Member or Suicide, and Incarceration of a Household Member have good connections with other variables, which confirms that these factors can be central in problematic trajectories.
