Abstract(s)
Several studies show that prisoners present higher rates of mental health issues and ACEs, compared to general population. Furthermore, the literature discusses that prisons rarely address the role of trauma on these issues. Trauma refers to a distressing or disturbing event or circumstance that causes a person to experience physical or psychological harm. As such, trauma-informed programs focus on understanding and addressing the potential traumatic experiences, being important to implement these programs in correctional facilities. Following the PRISMA guidelines, this Systematic Review aimed to analyse the mental health outcomes of the implementation of trauma-informed intervention programs with prisoners.
