- Deep Tech and Gambling Harm - How AI algorithms and platform design shape risk, detection and preventionPublication . Gomes, Bruno RibeiroGambling and games of chance are phenomena with deep historical roots that have acquired new dynamics with the advancement of digital technologies, which make gambling behaviour more accessible and potentially more addictive and problematic. This risk is intensified using deep tech, a set of technological innovations that leverage algorithms, data management, instrumentation and system design to optimize processes, promoting and increasing addictive behaviours. The present study analysed the perceptions of programmers and technology professionals about the role of deep tech in preventing, early detecting and minimizing the harms of problematic gambling behaviour. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 experts (seven from the technology field and seven from the social sciences), recorded and transcribed verbatim.
